Let me start with a statement: AHOCKALYPSE is a 2018 fun zombie comedy (indie) movie directed by Wayne Harry Johnson Jr. The film centres on a group of friends who are part of a local Ice Hockey team, after winning a championship game the group leave the rink to celebrate only to uncover the world is being ravaged by a zombie apocalypse.

Now I know you are thinking haven’t we seen a zombie comedy movie before (Zombieland, Warm Bodies), so what does this movie have to offer that’s different?

Do I hear you all shouting is this the same tired zombie movie we have seen over and over – but what, they play hockey?

In answer to those questions the answer is yes; you have seen the format before and yes they play hockey. AHOCKALYPSE however is a comedy first and zombie apocalypse movie second. The film doesn’t tread any new ground in terms of the zombie genre, but what it does deliver is wit, hilarious dialogue mixed with lovable characters. The film is well shot and keeps your attention – with plenty of blood, guts and gore enough to satisfy any horror fan.

Within the first 30minutes of the movie I (and I mean this) did “LOL”. I mean that sincerely and not like a teenager signing off every single instant message. There are some absolute corkers of comedic one liner’s and not to mention a rather prolific inspirational speech delivered by the teams coach about overcoming a medical problem. I will leave it at that or I will ruin it for you, but truly inspiring.

The lead actor in the film “Jonsey” (Jesse Rennicke) is the good looking team captain, but rather than the normal ego-lead character cast in this type of role Jesse delivers a lovable and sometimes awkward (on purpose) character you route for throughout. A performance that is stands out amongst the other performers, all of whom do an excellent job.

The film looks amazing with great camera work, creative and inventive CGI and editing. The acting is above par with very nice comedy timing. The movie also has a section where the main cast are stripped down to their underwear which is a winner for all viewing, there is something for everyone!

If you are looking for a genuine “LOL” (I hate that) comedy horror you will do no better than to watch AHOCKALYPSE. It will make you route for the principle cast and laugh at their banter and reactions. It is a great watch – plus check out the beautiful cast…and there is even ninja fighting bear team mascot with his badass back-up female fighters. If you like hockey, blood and horror – then you really should check this out!!

It’s Hock-tastic!!! (Did that work? – I mean it’s fantastic). What about this film doesn’t take the biscuit (apparently that’s a hockey term for the puck).
