GRUEMONKEY: Hello Jared and welcome to Gruemonkey. Thank you for being our guest today. How did you get involved in acting and who were some of your acting influences?

JARED: Well hello, thank you for having me! Acting has always kind of been a part of my life. I grew up dancing, and one of my favorite parts about dance was being able to incorporate a story into my routine. I always found it so fun to be able to act out as different characters and play around with storylines. It wasn’t until I moved out of my hometown (Edmonton Alberta) and to Vancouver that I really dove into the acting scene.

Someone who has a significant influence on me is Johnny Depp. From the roles he’s played, to the number of different genres he has done, he has always been able to perfect his character. He continues to be someone I look up to in this industry.

GRUEMONKEY: Tell us about being in Lucifer?

JARED: Lucifer was the first acting job I ever booked, which was both exciting and a little nerve wracking! I had just moved to Vancouver from Edmonton and had only been in the city for a few months when I auditioned and booked the role. Being my first professional job as an actor, I didn’t know what to expect. All I could do was follow the instructions I was given and learn as I go. It was amazing to be on a real production and see how it’s run. I immediately fell in love with being on set and knew this is where I was meant to be. All in all,  the experience was unforgettable.

GRUEMONKEY: How was it like hanging out with the cast and did you watch Lucifer before you were on a episode of it?

JARED: Oh, the cast was great. I was only on set for one day on Lucifer, but the whole cast was very welcoming and couldn’t have asked for a better day on set. I was on one of the earlier episodes of the first season, so none of the episodes had aired yet, so I didn’t get to watch anything beforehand! But it was cool to be able to be involved in the beginning process of the show.

GRUEMONKEY: Are you a horror fan at all, if so, what are some of your favourite horror films and why?

JARED: I’m not a massive horror film kind of guy, but I am a fan of A Quiet Place. What can I say about this movie; from the fantastic sound design to the direction by John Krasinski,  the film immerses you into this crazy post-apocalyptic world.

GRUEMONKEY: What are some of tv series you are currently binge watching? I have been binge watching Shameless.

JARED: Well… Speaking of John Krasinski, I am currently rewatching The Office … for the second time. I also recently finished binge watching the second season of Stranger Things, and I’m super stoked about the third season! And I’m patiently waiting for the last season of Game of Thrones to come out, which I will absolutely be binge watching.

GRUEMONKEY: How was it like playing a dark character like a Shapeshifter on Supergirl?

JARED: My Shapeshifter in Supergirl wasn’t as dark as one would have thought. Instead, I was using my shapeshifting abilities to get some extra bucks. I was a street performing shapeshifter, which fit perfectly to me since I’m a trained dancer. Playing a character like this was super cool, and I hope I get the opportunity to work as a similar character again.

GRUEMONKEY: What are your thoughts on the Supergirl tv show?

JARED: From my time on Supergirl, it was a great atmosphere to be in, and the whole cast was welcoming. I had a blast to be able to play such a unique character on the show. I had a few people I know reach out to me after I appeared on the show, which was nice to see the following for Supergirl was so large. I think what DC has going on in their tv series is really special, each show is one of a kind. Supergirl really stands out for me since it has such a strong female lead as well as all the different aliens and unique characters that are on the show.

GRUEMONKEY: Anything else you would like to promote or discuss?

JARED: Nothing I can talk about yet at this moment in time… but keep an eye out for me!
Thank you again for having me!
