Well, it’s here! Our first look at the 8th installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. I have to admit, I’m def intrigued. At only a 1:45, this bitch packs plenty of gooey goodness to satisfy this gorehound.
In case you’ve been out of the loop, ‘Leatherface‘ will focus on the origins of everyone’s fav chainsaw wielding wackjob as it takes place before the original 1974 classic. Leatherface is a teen here as the trailer shows. Apparently, we’ll be treated to how he came to wear that iconic skin mask and why chainsaws are his thang.
Here’s the down ditty:
In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
The filmmakers behind this have promised a brutal and dark flick more in the vein of the original. So far, judging by the trailer, they’re not whistling fucking Dixie!
The only thing that I’m not thrilled about is the fact that this is in the same universe as ‘TCM: 3D’ which I fucking loathed! Hopefully, this will be a course correction for the series. We shall see.
The saw is coming your way first via an exclusive DirecTV release on September 21, 2017, with a limited theatrical run and full VOD release through Lionsgate set for October 20, 2017.
